Karachi fishmonger registers business with FBR, sets example for Pakistanis

A man selling fish on a wheelbarrow in Karachi has set a new precedent for registering his business with the FBR. According to the website ProPakistani, in a country like Pakistan where almost all small businesses are operating without registration, it is a very welcome development for a person selling fish on a wheelbarrow to register his business.

According to the report, the man's name is Shahid Babel. He pays his income tax regularly. It has also displayed its tax number in a prominent place on the wheelbarrow to encourage other small business owners to register their businesses. It should be noted that the rate of taxpayers in Pakistan is very low. According to FBR data, in the financial year 2017-18, 2.63 million people submitted tax returns. Of these, 1.23 million were salaried and 1.4 million were unpaid.
