Palestine has announced its resignation from the presidency of the Arab League in protest of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain and Israel.
According to a report by the foreign news agency "Reuters", the Palestinian Foreign Minister condemned the establishment of relations with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates with Israel, calling it a violation of the Arab agreement, he said. Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghaith has been informed of the decision of Palestine. Palestine says the signing of an agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain on relations with Israel in Washington is a betrayal of their intentions and will undermine the struggle for an independent state in Israeli-occupied territories. At the last meeting of the UN General Assembly, Palestine failed to jointly condemn the signatory members of the League.
According to the report, Palestine was to preside over the Arab League for the next six months, but Foreign Minister Riaz al-Maliki said in a news conference in Ramallah that he had no desire for the position. The recent meeting of the Foreign Council had decided to recognize the right to chair, but it is not an honor for Arab countries to run for agreements under his presidency.
It may be recalled that on September 11, US President Donald Trump announced a peace agreement between Israel and Bahrain, and Bahrain, following in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates, announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with Israel. Declaring the day, he said that Israel and Bahrain are establishing genuine diplomatic and trade relations.
